Blue-headed Vireo Vireo solitarius
The Blue-headed Vireo is the eastern most form in the “Solitary Vireo” complex. Formerly considered one species they are now recognized as three, with the Cassin’s and Plumbeous vireos being species of the western ranges. It is the only vireo in its range to extensively use coniferous forests, and does occupy deciduous habitats as well in Canada, northeastern U.S. and south in the Appalachians. Its diet consists of mostly insects and its nest is located very low, usually three to twelve ft. above ground.
