Eastern Wood-Pewee Contopus virens
If not for its song this middle canopy dwelling bird would be nearly inconspicuous, with its dull brown plumage, in spite of its abundance.
It favors a habitat of mainly deciduous woodlands with margins or edges of clearings as it flies out from a perch to catch insects.
One potential cause of the decline of the Eastern Wood-Pewee population is the over population of white-tailed deer in the Eastern forests. In areas with high deer density, the intermediate canopy is disturbed by browsing, affecting the foraging space of the flycatcher.
