Northern Parula Parula Americana
Northern Parula Parula Americana
The Northern Parula is the smallest of the eastern warblers as it breeds in humid coniferous and deciduous forests, generally near slow moving streams, swamps, ponds, and lakes.
Pairs often return to the previous years nest site, which is made of lichen or Spanish moss, four to fifty ft. from the ground.
The distribution of the Northern Parula has an unusual break north to south. Explanations for the disappearance may be changes in habitat or increasing air pollution, which limited the growth of epiphytes on trees that the warbler depended on for nesting.
